MULTIPLE GROUNDS FOR OBJECTIONS 12 Re new houses at Courtlands Lympstone Village – Unique in character with its own railway station, shop and post office which provide most of our daily needs. A fantastic primary school which is already fully subscribed. Café, hairdresser and four public houses and for me and most others that have chosen Lympstone village as their home its best feature of all its unique sense of community and the Exe estuary running along its Western boundary. I make no apology for this article sounding like an entry for Devon’s Village of year something which Lympstone has already won. Many of these attributes were once shared by other Villages which sadly have now been absorbed by the large and growing conurbation of Exmouth already the largest Town in Devon. Although I enjoy visiting our larger neighbour and benefit from what the Town has to offer I have no wish to be a part of it otherwise that is where I would have chosen to live. To build a further 200 houses to the North of Exmouth and on the boundary of our Village would only accelerate the process of Lympstone becoming a suburb of Exmouth a process that could never be reversed. The land at Courtlands designated for development was quite recently sold as agricultural land and that is what it should remain otherwise this can only be seen as profiteering by those concerned. The developers have no interest in adding anything to the village their only interest is financial gain. Extra housing would only worsen the traffic problems on the already congested A376 and other local roads, over subscribe our local school and would bring no added benefit to our shop, post office or the village. So please think again before we allow our unique Village to be lost forever. Geoff Lill (Lympstone resident)
