MATCH REPORT
Lympstone
Cricket Club against Heads and Quicks at Newton St Cyres 14th May
20:20 match, with compulsory retirement at 30 runs and 4 overs maximum per bowler. Lympstone batted first and reached 77 before the first wicket fell. The openers did very well: Greg Richmond - 30 (retired); Jonno Lee - 30 (retired); Robin Tolson - 29; Toby Ingham - 27, not out and scoring off every ball. Lympstone finished after 20 overs on 147 for 4, our highest score since the Club was re-formed in April 2007.
Heads and Quicks only did slightly better – but enough: 148 for 3 off 18 overs! Greg Richmond was our outstanding bowler with 2 wickets for 10 runs from 4 overs. We just lost but, never mind, such a good batting performance was very encouraging and we look forward to the next match, whenever the weather permits.

BACKGROUND
After lying dormant for ten years, Lympstone Cricket Club was reborn last year with 20 villagers playing in five matches – it would have been eight but for rain. It was a trial year to see if there was enough support to keep the Club going. There is, although we didn’t win as many matches as we would have liked. But it’s early days yet! This year, we have a fixture list of 12, with ten 20-20 evening matches and two Sunday 40-40 matches. Come and support us! Our home ground is at Woodbury Cricket Club. Ask me for the whereabouts of away grounds.
We have a keen group of 20 players but we would love to have more. Contact me if you are interested! Annual membership fee is £5 for adult players and £3 for juniors (under 18). We practice in nets in Lympstone one evening a week – usually Tuesdays. Ask me for time and place if you want to join in or have a look at us.
The Club had no kit when we started last season. Some money was left over from 10 years ago with which we bought essentials, such as match balls. But due to lack of funds, we had to ask other clubs to give us stuff they were throwing out! So we have some rather tired pads and some spongy or cracked bats that don’t make scoring easy! Players match fees go on pitch hire.
If you would like to encourage us with a donation to buy some new bats and pads, that would be marvellous and a very great help and very much appreciated!
