LYMPSTONE PARISH COUNCIL MEETING 4th April

For full minutes of this meeting please see copes of the minutes which are posted in the Post Office.  Below are a few of the more memorable moments for me.

My concern about the possible closure of our public conveniences caused a sharp response for me when B Ingham, our East Devon District Councillor said he was getting nowhere with EDDC.  Cllr D Atkins joined the fray and it seems that they are still open only because the environmental agency wishes to use them during the work on the flood gates.

The police representative reported three incidents – the theft of a computer from a petrol station, a major accident (questions were asked about why roads were closed for six hours) and vandalism in the form of a brick through a vehicle window.

Our youth club’s newly appointed leader has dropped out to be replaced by her deputy Cia May.  But things are happening later this month.

After a mass of Parish Council administrative detail  - “Training courses for councillors are boring” said one councillor after telling us of one he had been on in great detail.

B Hughes, our Devon County Councillor finished the meeting with twelve minutes of how DCC officers had produced a wonderful report and enjoyed great success in probably having a road speed limit reduced.  This report, containing graphs, statistics, photos and costing a lot of your money to produce was shown to the police at a meeting at a private house which even our Chairman pointed out was unknown to our council.  The point of all this – a reduced speed limit on Hulham Road from the garden centre to the existing 30pmh limit. This is to protect the horses which use this road as a short cut to the common according to a horse rider who was present at the meeting.  Our Parish Council will have to debate and agree this proposal for it to be accepted. A lively argument at our next meeting is likely.
