Public Toilets still under threat of closure

East Devon District Council is still threatening to close the public toilets on the car park in the centre of the village.  They want a clear statement of intent to take them over, from the Parish Council.

In a heated debate in the Village Hall, Councillors still felt that a case for closure had not been made nor sufficient details provided to allow the Parish Council to give full consideration to take them over.

The cost of running them locally could be less than running from Sidmouth although there will be no cut in your Council tax.  If they are taken over by the Parish Council all of the cost will fall upon village taxpayers.  The cost cannot be calculated until the details are known but it could be as much as a quarter of the current Parish Council budget.

Councillors have finally given the commitment to take them over, subject to confirmation of the details.

Candy's Field

Lympstone@Play has asked for changes to the layout of the proposed play facilities on Candy's Field.  The Parish Council have approved the changes which will result in the Toddler area being built at the lower end of the Field next to the very popular Activity Trail and the Youth Facilities will go at the top of the Field so that they can be linked to the Youth Club. Councillor Jane Moffatt, a Member of Lympstone@Play put forward the plan as a more logical development of the much needed facilities.

In the meantime, the plans of the Football Club have come under more scrutiny.  It has been suggested that covenants imposed in the sale of the land by the Church Authorities may well put a stop to the present plans.  The Parish Council have already received sketch plans which show that extensive earthworks will be needed and trees will be affected.
