 TIDAL DEFENCES

Last months I travelled to Seaton to examine the type of gates which we will probably be having installed in Lympstone.  They are strongly built in stainless steel and designed to be a tight fit between pillars in all those six passage ways where the sea could flow in with the one exception of the Sailing Club slipway which will be raised to the same height as these gates.   Work will also be done on the Clock Tower and adjacent Sea wall. An electronic sensing device will be included in the gates so that the locked/close status can be confirmed centrally.Discussions are underway to determine who shall have the responsibility and (small) remuneration for ensuring that these gates are closed.

The Environment Agency has asked to publish their Project Newsletter for Lympstone’s Tidal Defence Scheme with this month’s issue of our Herald. Optima, our printers, are co-operating in producing this special addendum to provide you with an up to date view of the foreshore works which should be starting in May and finishing in October.

Keep your comments coming. Cllr Atkins is investigating possible errors in EDDC’s estimates of what it costs to keep them open.
