THE EDITOR

CONTENTS OF THE HERALD

At a Parish Council meeting on the 21st of November much was said about the contents and format of the Lympstone Herald. Apparently the main problem was the editing done in order to squeeze as much as possible into the Herald whilst at the same time increasing the space allocated to advertising – the Herald currently yields a net income of about £500 a year whilst remaining free to all Lympstone homes.  Additionally, there were some items which a few would like to see regularly including – readers letters, Births, Deaths and Marriages, a youth section and a notice board listing items for swapping.

Currently the make-up of the Herald is approximately one page of reporting of Parish Council matters, four pages of reports, one page of admin (Whats On etc) and three pages of advertising.  Additionally, the Environmental Services has been paying for extra pages to report it’s own progress in installing the flood defences.  It is proposed that in future, the size of the Herald remains the same but that the space previously taken by Environmental Services should be used for reports – doubling the space available.

It is likely that we will still not have space for reports of dead cats and thank-you letters for neighbours ‘putting out the bins’. I have severe reservations about the legal aspects of BD & Ms but I will try to publish any sent in.

The meeting on the 16th of January should clear any other problems- except perhaps who is going to help to do all the extra work.
