ITEMS OF NOTE

From the Parish Council Meeting of the 9th of December

COUNCIL VACANCIES

Bridget Norris was elected onto the council to fill one of the casual vacancies.  Sally Albon who stood against her will stand for the second vacancy next month.

ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

East Devon District Council has asked parish councils to identify six examples of Anti Social Behaviour for review in more depth out of a list of about eighty.  There will be a discussion on this at the next meeting.

ROAD MARKINGS

Devon County Council is to reinstate road markings in the village “so that current traffic orders can be enforced”. (You have been warned – Ed)

YOUTH CLUB

The youth club roof has been replaced and the club will reopen next Friday with a trip to the pantomime in the near future.

SHALLOW EXIT

Cllr Carter asked District Councillor Ingham if he knew anything about reports in the press saying that the lifeboat

launching station is being moved to below the point where the estuary shelved. This

seems to indicate that entrance and exit to the estuary would soon become impossible for all boats.  Our Chairman said that written questions would be submitted to follow this up.

POLICE

A police representative at the meeting said that our Neighbourhood Beat Manager was unlikely to be replaced. He quoted various crime statistics indicating that crime in the village had halved recently.  In the last three months there have been three significant crimes in the village – illegal ownership of a shot gun, a break-in at licensed premises (one of a series of similar burglaries in Devon) and one of indecent exposure near Kings (on a very cold night).

PLANNING MEETINGS

There will be an extra council planning meeting on the 23rd of January to try to process planning applications in what has become a very tight schedule.

It is hoped that a representative of Cavanna homes who are responsible for the New Estate Road  development off Trafalgar Road will attend the Parish Council meeting next month.

Meetings with Badger Homes re Longmeadow Rd developments will take place
