VILLAGE CAROL SINGING
The carol singing at lunchtime on
Saturday 17 December outside the Swan and round the village on Monday 19
December was very well supported by singers and also by many in the village who
made generous contributions. The singers were helped enormously by the
Lympstone Brass Band led by Richard Bound and by clarinettists John Welton and
Richard de la Rue. Together with money raised by the Lympstone Mummers, we were
able to give £304 to the Children's Society. Last year the Society raised
£114,000 from carol singing up and down the country. The money was used to help
launch its 'safe and sound campaign' which aims to ensure that every young
runaway has somewhere safe to go and someone sound to turn to for help. At the
Check Point South Coast Runaway's Initiative in Devon, family mediation work has
meant that 76% of the children seeking help were able to return home. They need
to do more and the money we have raised this year should go towards further
development of that scheme, helping vulnerable Jill Wilson THE LYMPSTONE SOCIETY Our next event, on THURSDAY, 2nd FEBRUARY, is to be a Sports-related evening with talks and information about the history, activities, facilities and future plans of village clubs.
