Cycle Path Progress The first section of the cycle path has been given the go ahead - but only half of it will be completed before next April.
Village Website www.lympstone.org After 5 years of displaying a window on Lympstone and a handy reference point for many, lympstone.org now has more than one hundred visitors a day. These range from children (many of whom have contributed to the site) through Lympstone residents searching for useful information like telephone numbers, what someone looks like or the name of the secretaries for various clubs to potential visitors and friends and relatives living thousands of miles away. Think of it as a Lympstone directory with pictures (and in the case of some of the kids stuff – music and singing). For the last twelve months the site has paid for itself by advertising in the Herald which is also duplicated on the web site and so particularly attractive to some advertisers. Currently it requires a couple of hours a month to load the printed Herald onto the internet to which children’s pages are occasionally added (help on this internet work would be useful and training would be given) CMCarter
Maureen says "au Revoir".... Wow - what a surprise! This Village can certainly keep a secret. I was absolutely stunned by the reception I received when I came into the Village Hall and I have been overwhelmed by your kind words, all the cards, the letters and incredible generosity. Thank you all so much. I have been very lucky to have spent the last 26 years working in this lovely community. We have shared a lot of laughter and many tears. I am going to miss you all. I am, however, leaving you in the capable hands of Vicki and Helen - both experienced dispensers who are young, capable and far more able to take on the ever evolving N.H.S. How on earth did we ever manage with just pen, paper and a pill counter? Vic and I look forward to seeing you all in more social settings or out walking with the dog. Thanks a million for my amazing present - perhaps we will get to Australia one day after all! Look after yourselves - with much affection, Mo Gibbins

Alli Northcott (Soprano Cornet) will cycle from Harrogate International Centre, home of the Brass Band Finals, to Lympstone Band room in the Youth Club non-stop. The 300 miles (approx.) will take Alli through the night battling all weathers, tired legs and all in the aid of Lympstone Band, who have fought hard to qualify for the National Finals in the 2nd section. It is likely to cost the band in the region of £8000 to compete at the finals on 23rd September 2006. 3 ways how to sponsor us: 1. Fill in the sponsor form on www.lympstoneband.co.uk/sponsor.html and pay later. 2. Fill in the sponsor form on www.lympstoneband.co.uk/sponsor.html and pay via PayPal. 3. Contact a band member at any of our concerts. Everyone is invited to an
afternoon of music, entertainment, food, drink, games and prizes and of course
Alli's return (whenever she may make it!) on 23rd July 2006 outside the Youth
Club, on Candy's Field, from 12 o'clock. Bryony
Furry Dance Festivities A full day of fun festivities is planned for Lympstone’s famous annual Furry Dance and Fete on Saturday, August 5. Come along and enjoy the fete in Candy’s Field, official opening at 1.30, with jitter bug dancers. Fun for all with car boot sale, children’s entertainment, stalls, refreshments and family dog show (starts 2.15pm). Stallholders welcome in the ‘pannier market’ – contact Edith Harrison (tel: 271110). Fancy dress competition at 5.30pm on village hall tennis courts and then dance through the village in the traditional procession led by the Lympstone Band starting near the Globe Inn at 7pm. Volunteer collection tin shakers needed – contact Graham Wills (tel: 07971 916645). The cream tea held at Four Winds last month was a huge success raising a total of £255 for the Furry Dance. This was only the second year of organising the cream tea, and we are very grateful for the support of the villagers and hope to make this an annual event. On the much debated subject of “which comes first, cream or jam?” we carried out an intensive survey on the day, and the result was a resounding “cream first!” Bridget Norris |
