 The Lympstone Society

We are arranging a visit to Exeter on Tuesday 28th March which will include a guided tour of the palace gardens and cathedral close, starting at 10.30 am, and a guided tour of Exeter Cathedral in the afternoon from 2.00 to 3.00pm.  Everybody is welcome, but please book early.  The total cost will be £6.00, and tickets will be on sale in the Post Office from March 10th.  There is a suitable train to Exeter leaving Lympstone at 9.58 am.  All enquiries for this event to Mrs Joyce Malster on 277077.

The Society would like also to ask for co-operation from all residents to improve the look of our village as we move in to the summer months, by picking up the litter which so spoils our roads, paths and green areas.  The Women’s Institute members do a great job of regular litter-picking on some paths and we are very grateful for that, but they cannot cover the whole village.  In any case, we should not leave it all to them – surely it is the responsibility of us all to have our village looking at its best, for our many visitors as well as ourselves.  We can all help – not only by picking up what we see, but most importantly by making sure that our children are taught to dispose of litter properly, and by setting a good example to them.

For further information about the Lympstone Society, please call the Secretary on 227044.

A Folk Club in Lympstone

On the 1st March there was a very busy evening at The Swan when ‘Lympstone Folk’ was launched.  Despite the snow, around forty people watched, sung and performed in a friendly and informal atmosphere round the fire.  Tony Day compered the evening and there were singers, several accordion players, a clog dancer, story tellers, guitarists, a fiddler, a melodian, a mandolin, poetry and more from Lympstone and well beyond.  The next session is on Monday April 5th, starting at around 8.30.  Performers are welcome (song, music, words, adults and younger) and so is the audience.  There are some choruses to sing with, plenty to listen to and anyone can stay for as little or as much time as they like – or even listen while they eat!  Sessions are on the first Wednesday of the month.  There is no charge.  Just come – or for more information, phone Jenny Moon (01395-276569) or talk with Alan in The Swan.

Lympstone Football Club

Dear Villagers

I am writing to apologise to those villagers who were offended by the raucous behaviour of some footballers on the afternoon of Saturday 28th January as they drove through our village.

Can I assure you that none of those responsible were from Lympstone Football Club, but were members of Topsham Town F.C, our visitors on that day.

We have written to the Devon F.A. to inform them of this incident and also to Topsham Town to demand a public apology, which we have yet to receive.

Please accept our apology for this incident which thankfully, is of a kind almost unheard of in this league.

Yours sincerely, Chris Gooding (Chairman)

More redecorating in the Youth Hut

The refurbishment of the youth hut has had a big boost this week with the arrival of the Probation Service Community Work team. The team will be with us one or two days a week until all the painting and redecorating is completed. So far they have already painted the stage area, painted the ceiling in the main room and nearly completed painting the whole of the games room and finished the ceilings in the toilets. They have also put new flooring down in the Kitchen.

Not only have we had the benefit of free labour, but also all the paint and flooring have been kindly donated by both Wilson’s Paints and B&Q.
