ITEMS OF NOTE From the Parish Council Meeting of the 8th May

Council Organisation

Last night the Parish Council went through the process of reorganizing itself with the re-election of David Atkins as Chairman, Peter Acca as Vice Chairman and, with slight changes, the various committees and committee chairman remain the same. Details of these will be published later (after the Clerk to the Council sorts them out).  Mr Tyrell was reappointed as Tree Warden and Councillor Dover as Village Hall representative. Gulliford Joint Committee representatives remain the same. The Finance Committee is composed of the Chairman plus all other chairmen.

District Councillor’s Report

Amongst various small items of news, Cllr Ingham reported the probable removal by BT of the telephone box at The Saddlers.

A car park for the top of the village with charges similar to the existing car park was discussed as a means of alleviating street parking.

 Police Report

Stuart Penny listed six incidents in the village which included theft of a vehicle from the car park and an assault by two men. (Councillor Eastley expressed his concern about this and the general lack of police in the village which should result in a letter to the local police management from the Parish Council).

Amongst other business discussed were –

The closure of Tedstone Lane by SW Water 30th May to the 1st June.

A letter from DEFRA on the Clean Neighborhoods and Environment Act 2005 was discussed with few of the Councillors in favour of considering the powers available to them to issue fixed penalty notices for littering, graffiti and flyposting offences.

A press release on EDDC Refuse and Recycling Contract (see elsewhere in this issue)

The proposed cycle path was the subject of a letter read out and comments from people who were not at the last Parish Council Planning meeting when this was discussed.  The current situation seems to be under review – see next page.
