PUBLIC CONVENIENCES

Parish Council management of the public conveniences took a step further at the Parish Council meeting when the details of the lease from EDDC and the current standards of maintenance were discussed.

The Council still feel that the Conveniences can be managed more efficiently if done locally.  Amongst other things the Parish Council agreed that the opening hours would be: January - May and September - December:  Monday to Saturday, from 10.00am – 4.00pm. June, July & August: 7 days per week, 8.00am – 8.00pm.  During the quietest months of November – February, only the Disabled Convenience will be open for all users during the day, with the other conveniences remaining closed.  The Parish Council would appreciate your views on these ideas.

The Council also agreed that the opening, closing and cleaning and maintenance should be carried out by a local contractor rather than by an employee.  The Parish Council is interested to hear from local contractors who are willing and able to carry out this work.  They should write or email the Clerk with their details.  A specification is currently being prepared.

TRAFFIC

There are widespread fears that vehicles are still driving too fast at all times of the day.  This is bringing increased risk to pedestrians including children going to and from School or the Youth Club.   These are people of the village and entitled to a quiet and safe life here.  Please do your bit by driving slowly even 20 mph is too fast in many sections of the road through the village.

LAND OFF TRAFALGAR ROAD

Lympstone WI have carried out a litter pick on the footpath from Trafalgar Road into Candy's Field.  Our thanks go to them for this excellent voluntary work to help keep our village tidy.  In the hedge they found many plastic bags containing dog mess.  This is probably because there is no dog bin nearby, the Parish Council are to ask EDDC to provide bins to help keep the area tidy.  BUT in the meantime, please follow the Countryside Code and take your litter home with you.  This will help keep the village and its amenity areas tidy.

Tony le Riche, Clerk to the Council
