ITEMS OF NOTE From the Parish Council Meeting in December

REPORT FROM A J Le Riche

TRAFFIC WARDENS ARE COMING

The Contractors will be in the village on the first dry day after 9th January 2007 to complete painting all the double yellow lines.  Once this is done, the traffic wardens will be coming back to the village to enforce them.  WPCSO Donna baker told the meeting that advisory notices had been put on cars that had been illegally parked, but very soon the parking restrictions will be enforceable and so parking tickets will be issued instead.  Beware and act responsibly

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The next meeting of the Parish Council will re-open the debate on affordable housing in the parish.  Cavanna Homes will be building 21 'affordable' or social housing on their site off Trafalgar Road.  This will meet some of the needs of the village but it will not meet all of them.   If you are involved in LYMPETS or have attended other meetings about this, please come along to the meeting and give your views.

 COUNCILLORS ALLOWANCES

All Councils can agree to pay their Councillors an allowance as a payment for the work they do.  This includes the Parish Council.  There is a limit to the amount that can be paid.  For this year it is £283.00 and for the chairman it is £404.00.  Once again, your Parish Council has agreed that it will not pay any allowances to Councillors and the chairman’s allowance is still set at £100.  All Parish Councillors are ready willing and able to give their time and skills to improve community life and they have confirmed that they will do this voluntarily.

Our website now has access to live pictures of the estuary and weather details courtesy of Simon Yates of Starcross Yacht Club.

He tells me “On the weather page the environment agency are linking up their weather station on  Lympstone pier with SYC in the near future so in westerly winds the Lympstone shore would give a more accurate reading and vice versa in an easterly should be useful for both Sailing Clubs.’

CYCLE PATH

At Christmas I took the opportunity to examine the path being forced through from Exmouth (and, incidentally, towards Exeter as far as one can see from the bridge to Cliff Field). With the exception of a couple of very small sections, the fencing between the rails and the new path has all been erected.

 COME TO THE MEETING

Our January Parish Council meeting was very poorly attended.  Such meetings are always open to the public and there is a chance for anyone to speak on matters affecting the Parish.  It is important that Parish Councillors see active support from the people in the area. Why not come to the next meeting which is on Monday 5th February 2007 in the Committee Room at the Village Hall.
