Page 2 20th January Party at Saddlers As you may have seen in last months Herald, there was a diary date in respect of a party at the Saddlers Arms on Saturday 20th January. I have arranged this for a few good reasons and I have made it an open event for all those who would like to pop in for a dance, a chat and for old members of the Barnacles Youth Club that was in existence in 1964, current members of the Parish Council and personnel friends of mine. I also hope anyone considering joining the Parish Council would also be welcome. Light refreshments will be available. Parish Dinner Last year I introduced a Parish Cllr Dinner Evening during February and I am doing so again this year. I am this time opening it up to anyone who would like to join us. Tickets will be available from all current serving Cllrs from the 25th January to 7th February. This year it will be held at the Saddlers Arms at 7 – 7.30pm. on the 24th of February. David Atkins
WI We started the New Year with a most enthusiastic speaker - David Snellings of Operation Henry's Expedition with a Mule. Henry is, in fact, not a mule but a hinny (a cross between a horse and donkey). David planned to undertake a 2000km charity walk with Henry as a fundraising venture for cancer care and research which involved them walking over the mountainous terrain of the Pyrenees along the well-known pilgrims' route: the way of St James. However, their departure date in the Spring of 2000 was delayed because of David's stroke and then the outbreak of foot and mouth . He eventually left England in 2002, planning to walk 12½ miles a day and enjoy the hospitality of the French and Spanish en route. We saw shots of his route and the scenery between Le Puy-en-Velay (central France) and Santiago de Compostela (N.Spain). Thanks to generous sponsorship Operation Henry has raised a lot of money. The vote of thanks was given by Bobby Brunt. Our new Secretary, Joyce Perry, dealt with correspondence and notices of forthcoming events. The President said the Christmas meeting had been very successful and thanked all the helpers. The Flower of the Month Cup for 2006 was won by Diana de la Rue. This month's flower winner was Joan Denison with a helibore. The raffle was won by Adrienne Hebdige. Forthcoming events: New Year dinner at The Swan on Weds. 10 January (7 for 7.30) Drama Group meeting at Chapel Rooms on Mon. 15 January at 2.15 pm Skittles at The White Hart on Thurs. morning 18 January. No footpath clearing this month. WI lunch on Tues. 20 February. Next meeting: Weds. 7 February at 2.30 when Julie Turner will talk on her work as a store detective. More new members always welcome. Diana de la Rue PTFA Forth coming events include – 2nd March Disco in the Village Hall 10 March: Car Boot Sale (Saddlers Arms) 31 March: Quiz - Village Hall Margaret Turgoose
