ITEMS OF NOTE From the Parish Council Meeting July 2nd Car parking Cllr Jim Bailey has asked the Parish Council to reopen the debate about providing another car park. This has been on the table for 20 years with either no solution or no take up for a paying car park. Now that there are more double yellow lines in the village with the threat of greater enforcement, the Council felt it was time to look at this again. The travel and transport working group will be discussing this. If you have any views or ideas, please contact the Chairman, Cllr Rob Longhurst on 263495. Cycle Way The Travel and Transport Working Group had an open forum in May to discuss ideas for extra facilities in the village now that the Exmouth - Lympstone section of the Exe Estuary Cycle/ Walk way is about to open. Some traffic management ideas were put to Devon County Council along with a request for support to keep the public conveniences open. Unfortunately at the moment, there does not seem to be much support. It is time for the village to consider whether it might want to provide some facilities of its own. Ideas include Cycle lockers, Cycle stands, Maps of the village, advertising of local business etc. If you have any suggestions or would like to get involved, please contact Cllr Rob Longhurst on 263495. 20mph zone for the village The parish council received a letter from George and Mary Truell with suggestions for a number of things that the Parish Council might consider. One of these was a 20mph zone for the Village. This would cover all of the roads in the area except the A376. The Council has heard that this scheme was on the reserve list in the Highways dept at Devon County Council. This means that it is unlikely that it will be dealt with this year. The cost of making the necessary changes is around £6,000 - one factor that might be holding this up. (This 20mph speed limit has been discussed in Council almost every year, recently. Ed) Affordable Housing The development of new houses in Trafalgar Road is well underway. Some of these are 'Affordable Homes' East Devon District Council has confirmed that applications from people in need and have local connection will be given priority for the allocation of these homes. To qualify, it is necessary to register as an applicant with East Devon District Council. See details on their website www.eastdevon.gov.uk or contact them on 516551. If you have not registered you cannot qualify for one of these houses.
