Friends of Lympstone Parish Church

The winner of the June Draw was Mrs Shirley Friend of Globe Cottages, with ticket number 3505.

Sadly the Cricket Match planned for 14th June was cancelled because of rain!    However, many really super prizes had been donated for the raffle, and the Swan has very kindly agreed to let us hold the draw there on Saturday, 28th July at 12 Noon. We shall be there to sell tickets from 11a.m .onwards.    If you can't make it on July 28th, tickets may be bought in advance from the Post Office, or from Joyce Malster or Richard Giles.

 Rail users’ group

A well attended public meeting in Exmouth Town Hall on 25th June agreed to set up a rail users’ group for the “Avocet Line” between Exmouth and Exeter.  The Steering Group that will take matters forward includes Lympstonians Tony Day, Richard Giles, Don Mildenhall and Nick Millington.

With others from Exmouth, Topsham and Exeter, they will formulate proposals for how the group will operate and report these to a further public meeting to be held on 4th October.

Lympstone is in the final of 'Calor Village of the Year'

The Parish Council decided a few months ago to have a stab at entering the Calor Village of the Year Competition. Our village is such an active, sociable village with so many wonderful aspects to it which keeps it so vibrant that we hoped we would have a chance. This competition is really about the activities and opportunities there are in the village for the people who live here. We've been very lucky to have been chosen as one of the finalists. The judges will be coming around the village some time in August.

 IN MEMORY OF STEVE VENTON

Many thanks to everybody who sponsored me at my Dad’s reception held in the Globe Inn on 14th April 2007. We raised £201.50 for children with cancer or leukaemia. I completed the Michelmores run in just under 30 minutes which started at the Cathedral and ended at the Imperial Inn. I saw Phil Russell at the end of the race and he looked shattered (although he did reach the finish line before me)! Thanks

Luke Venton

“The Exe from the source to the Sea" was John Stuart's subject at our well attended July meeting.  He gave a brief history of the Exmoor area, covering two counties.  We saw beautiful photos of the length of The Exe, starting with a mere trickle, following its path through various villages and towns, ending with the seafront at Exmouth.  The scenery was stunning, with views being taken during different seasons.  He was thanked for his excellent presentation by Mary Nightingale.
