ITEMS OF NOTE From the Parish Council Meeting March 5th Parish Council Elections These take place on Thursday 3rd May 2007. This year’s elections will cover District and Parish Councillors, so there is plenty of opportunity to get involved in different ways. Councillors have a key role to play in putting forward ideas and local concerns. They provide direction for their area, encouraging and aiding people and communities to provide more facilities and activities themselves. Your Parish Council Chairman is hosting an informal get-together for existing Councillors and anyone who might be interested in becoming a parish Councillor. There is no commitment at this stage. Existing Councillors willl be on hand to explain what it means to be a Councillor. The candidate’s minimum age has been lowered to 18. If anyone feels ready to take on the challenge and would like to know more, please come along to The Swan Inn at 8.30 on Monday 19th March 2007. A full list of Parish Councillors and meeting dates for the next 12 months can be found on the Village Website: www.lympstone.org and on the village notice boards.' If you haven’t seen the website yet, why not pay a visit, its full of local information. If you feel that something is missing please contact Cllr Chris Carter (details on the website!) Millennium Map Last Year, the Lympstone Society presented a Millennium Map of the Parish, to the Parish Council. This is an excellent representation showing how the village has grown over the last 200 years and highlighting important local events. Some tidying and clearance work has now been done in the Village Hall and the Parish Council has warmly welcomed the suggestion that the Millennium Map should be hung there with the previous map.' Clerk to the Council: A J Le Riche, DMS, 43 Salisbury Road, Exmouth, EX8 1SL, Tel 279665/ 07866 535580 lympstonepc@leriche6.wanadoo.co.uk

CYCLE PATH
The first section (500 metres from the A396 behind the Donkey Field through to Carter Ave) is now just about open. Work goes on apace on the rest of the path towards Lympstone. Walking the exiting footpath from Lympstone to Exmouth one can appreciate how pleasant the new path will be. But beware; the section where the old and new paths coincide on the Exmouth side of the level crossing is (3/3/7) currently under six inches (15cm) of water. A finish date sometime in June now seems feasible. FOOTNOTE At the council meeting on the 5th of March, Devon County Councillor BCJ Hughes announced that the cycle path is being funded by Devon CC, not SUSTRAN as we had previously understood.
