ITEMS OF NOTE From the Parish Council Meeting May Vandalism has hit the Parish in recent weeks. The Parish Council’s Bus Shelter in Meeting Lane has had more glass smashed and the Parish Council Notice Board at the end of Courtlands Lane has been vandalised again within days of the smashed glass being replaced it was broken again. The same happened at the top of Wotton Lane. The cost of repairs is not met by insurance and falls directly on the Parish Council. Everyone in the Parish is asked to be vigilant and report any vandalism to the Police with full details. This is mindless vandalism, they are asked to be bold enough to talk to the Parish Council and not act in this senseless way. The Harbour Board is considering putting up signs to define the public rights of way and deter the public from using other areas. This has been brought about by an increase in vandalism to boats. The Parish Council wishes to have more discussion about this with the Harbour and Fisheries Board. The number of reported crimes in the village remains high. There were nine reported crimes in April. This is down from 13 in March but is still too high for this area. The police have leads in some cases but not enough information to make a case. If you know anything about any incidents in the parish let the police know. Ring the Enquiry Line on 084520777444. or anonymously by ringing Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. The Working Party on Affordable Housing has met on four occasions to find a way of providing houses that local people can afford. The Working party is concentrating on a Village Trust that might raise funds to purchase property and then sell or rent on advantageous terms to local people. There should be a condition for letting the social houses in Trafalgar Road to local people. Anyone interested should register with EDDC immediately. The Working Party’s report has now been 'adopted' by the parish Council to take these things forward.
