ITEMS OF NOTE From the Parish Council Meeting in October

Mr Phil Legge of 16 Highcliffe Close was co-opted as a Parish Councillor.  He has the usual loads of paperwork to read and sign and then will be able to act on your behalf.  New lists of members of the Parish Council will be displayed on the Parish Council Notice Boards in the next couple of weeks.

The Parish Council heard of the abuse of the play Area at Candy's Field as the venue for late night drinking, drug taking, noise and general vandalism.

This area was provided for young children of the parish so that they may have somewhere to play in safety.  It is not intended for any other use.

If you know any one who uses the play area late at night, please make sure they know that they are abusing a valuable local facility which should be respected not abused.  Parents - are your children involved in this unsocial and possible illegal activity.  Do you know where they are late in the evening or at night?  If you are unsure, please do your bit and make sure that it is not your child who is causing trouble and distress.

Name that Road: the developers have approached the school to have a competition to name the new road serving the development off Trafalgar Road.  Three out of four suggestions were rejected on 'policy' grounds by the Post Office or East Devon District Council.  Your Parish Council feels that the policy of not using local family names for streets is wrong and should not apply.  What do you think?  Please let your local councillor know your views and write to East Devon, Street naming, Knowle, Sidmouth, EX10 8HL urging them not to destroy local heritage and local connections in this way.

Devon County Council is to carry out repairs and maintenance to the roads in the village before putting down new lines or reinstating the old ones.  The Parish Council has been asked to advise on the priority for this work.  Please let your local councillors know which roads need repair so that it can be added to the list.

Clerk to the Council: A J Le Riche, DMS,  43 Salisbury Road, Exmouth, EX8 1SL, Tel 279665/ 07866 535580 lympstonepc@leriche6.wanadoo.co.uk
