ITEMS OF NOTE From the Parish Council Meeting February Lympstone Parish Council wins another accolade East Devon District Council held a Celebration of Town and Parish Councils evening. The theme was to look at what was being done and what could be done by Parish Councils. Your Parish Council was presented with an award and a donation of £150, for the best achievements over the last five years. The submission was based on the need to close and reform Lympstone Youth Club. This is now recognised as a very successful village facility for young people. Vice Chairman, Councillor Jane Moffatt paid tribute to the members of the Parish Council who, four years ago, had taken the bold decision to close the Club and set about renovating the building.” The A376 – new development in Exmouth A new supermarket and 2000 homes in Exmouth is causing much concern on the traffic front. These will cause a big increase in the number of people who want to travel to Exeter to work and shop. The train service will not cope and the A376 is already over-used with queues to get into and out of Exeter. There will be more debate at the next Parish Council meeting so please let your Parish Council know how you feel about this. Meet your Councillor The next Parish Council Surgery will be held at 10.00 – 11.00am on Saturday 16th February 2008 in the committee room at the Village Hall. As well as two Parish Councillors, PCSO Sarah Trayhurn will be there to talk about policing issues including par parking in the village. The Lympstone Boat Shelter The Lympstone Fisheries and Harbour Association will be giving a presentation regarding new signs at the Boat Shelter on Wednesday 20th February, starting at 7.30pm. Refreshments will be served after the presentation. This will be the opportunity to hear of the challenges that the Association are facing and how they are proposing to deal with them. Whatever your views, it is important that you should come along to hear about the future of this area of the village.

The Lympstone Herald has been noted as one of Lympstone’s assets in getting awards as a pleasant village to live in (see articles in the local paper, magazines and elsewhere in this issue). To celebrate this is the biggest Lympstone Herald ever at 20 printed pages (5 Pages on the web). In addition, to celebrate and to ease production problems, we are making certain software changes. In the interest of compatibility we are updating our email system, editing software and the www.lympstone.org web site software. (Please report any problems to the editor, Lympstone Herald, ASAP.) There will be a party in April to thank everybody involved in the production and distribution of the Herald.
BRITAIN IN BLOOM (AGAIN) We have received several communications (including one very long hand-written letter) all saying basically the same thing - it would be wonderful to see the village looking pretty again BUT it does take an awful lot of effort to achieve this. However, if you feel like helping in such an effort (or even in organising things), then I will pass your name to the right people. It seems that there are many in the village who would like to beautify our little patch of the world. Chris Carter, Editor The Lympstone Herald and www.lympstone.org
