Lympstone Village Station

An open meeting will be held in the Village Hall Function Room on Monday, 14th January 2008 at 7pm.  Simon Evans (First Great Western) will explain the Station Adoption Scheme and answer questions. The scheme can include gardening, "station watch" and community information displays.

Pete Acca (Chairman, Parish Council) will chair the meeting, which is sponsored by the Parish Council and is supported by Lympstone Garden Club, Lympstone History Society and the Avocet Line Rail Users' Group.

Whilst we will mainly be discussing ideas for the future and how to implement them, it would be very useful to look at what happened before.  If anyone has old photos of the station or embankment when it was planted with flowers, please could I borrow them to make a copy?

FLOOD WARDENS & CLOG DANCERS

The closing act in this year’s Village Concert on 19th January will be the Lympstone Gate Wardens, that brave band of villagers who struggle from their beds in storm and tide to close the barriers that protect us from being overwhelmed by floods. They have written their own song to celebrate their valour and will sing it lustily with the audience joining in the chorus: “Close the gates, the tide is rising, close the gates the tide…” etc etc.  Other new acts include the Lympstone Clog Dancers, and for the first time the W. I. Drama Group will grace the Village Concert. There will be the usual family entertainment of songs and comic sketches, demonstrating what a talented village Lympstone is, and as usual we shall start with the young players of The Lympstone Training Band. There are a few tickets left at the Post Office.

LYMPSTONE FILM SOCIETY

In contrast to our very successful Black & White night in December, the January offering, on Friday 11th, will be Julie Christie and Greta Scacci in HEAT & DUST with its colourful  Indian setting.  And on Friday 8th February we'll be showing CLOSELY OBSERVED TRAINS.

Meanwhile on Wednesday 23rd January we are staging our first 'Silver Screening': a matinée for older residents featuring the timeless Ealing comedy KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS.  With Alec Guiness starring (as seven different characters!) and a plethora of the best of British acting talent of the immediate postwar years, it should make for a killingly funny afternoon.  Doors open at 2pm in the Village Hall Function Room.  Entry £2.  If you need transport, ring me on 277501 the week before.
