ITEMS OF NOTE From the Parish Council Meeting November

Meet your Parish Councillor

Parish Councillors will be holding 'Surgeries' where anyone from the Village can come to find out what the Parish Council is doing and to raise issues of local concern.

Surgeries will be held in the Village Hall from 10 00 - 11.00 on:-

Saturday 15th December 2007 - Cllrs Liane Asel and Brian Cotton

Saturday 19th January 2008 - Cllrs Jim Bailey and Rob Longhurst

Saturday 16th February 2008 - Cllrs to be announced

Saturday 15th March 2008 - Cllrs to be announced.

If you would like to discuss anything that affects life in the village, outside of a formal meeting, this is the opportunity to do so.'

 Harbour Signs

These continue to generate strong feelings at the Parish Council meeting and will be on the agenda for the next meeting, in December.   The Harbour Association are keen to ensure that they protect themselves from any legal action as a result of an accident but Col. Wheeler has agreed that any alternative that meets this need will be considered.  In the meantime, the Parish Council's wishes to be more involved in managing the area are to be followed up.

Planning in the Parish

East Devon District Council is preparing a 'Local Development Framework'.  This replaces the local plan and will set out zonings for development and will take into account wishes of local communities.   The Parish Council's Planning Committee will be responding to this challenge by drawing up a draft planning statement for the village with suggestions for development potential and statements of restrictions on development.  This is likely to be put before the public in the New Year.

One clear aspect of this that will affect the Parish is the state of the A376 and increase in traffic that will be generated by development in Exmouth.  The Parish Council will be watching for any proposals very carefully and will do its best to protect the interests of the Parish.

 PARISH COUNCIL VACANCY

Polling day will be Thursday 22 November 7am - 10pm. There was a good turn-out last time we had an election and I hope that we can have the same again.  PLEASE make an effort to go up to the village hall and vote again.

ALLOTMENTS WAITING LIST

A few people have asked me about the availability of allotments. In short, John Newton (263809) has a waiting list so give your name to him together with a note of whether you are interested in a full or half piece. (I got a full one a couple of years ago and I can tell you that even with the help of friends, as I did, it is hard work getting rid of the weeds etc).

POLICE STATISTICS

PCSO Trayhurn gave us the usual breakdown of police statistics at the Parish Council meeting.  Reported to the police were 16 incidents at which the police attended half. As well as the usual damage to motor vehicles there were 3 burglaries. Perhaps if we could get some Neighbourhood Watch groups going we might have more impact on these crimes.

St Mary’s Meadow

I have received several messages complaining about the new houses in St Mary’s Meadow. Mostly they are from residents who until recently enjoyed distant views of the estuary. I am sorry that they have lost their views and suffered the noise and dust from the building works. In retrospect it was perhaps unthinking of me to say in the last Herald that the building scheme had been successful on all fronts.

Queries on the Affordable Houses should be directed to - Anna Snow Marketing Manager Sovereign Housing Group (0845 6021 618) who tells me that there has been “a good take-up”.

 Scouts Christmas Postal Service

The scouts will run their usual Christmas postal service. Collections will start on the 4th December and last deliveries will be the 22nd December. This year, combining with other groups, we are taking deliveries for EXETER districts, as well as our usual Lympstone and Budleigh Salterton areas.

Devon Life Village of the Year 2007

On behalf of the village I would like to thank Cllr Jane Moffatt for entering Lympstone for the Village of the Year Award. I was proud to be presented with this award on behalf of the village. Jane’s efforts also got Lympstone to the final of the Calor Village of the Year - maybe we can take that crown in 2008.
