Next PAGE 2 Charity ceilidh 3rd Nov Lympstone Folk are giving villagers a second chance to let their hair down at a charity ceilidh in the village hall on Saturday 3rd November. This time door profits will go to the Children’s Hospice, South West – in memory of Lympstone baby Orlando Burton, who passed away earlier this year and whose family the Hospice continue to support. The raffle will once again be for the Agape orphanage in Sri Lanka. Lympstone Folk’s last ceilidh in June was a sell out and raised £500 for the orphanage. Tickets for 3rd November are £7 in advance or £10 on the door, and are on sale now at the Post Office. We all know our village is a great place to live and unique through it's community spirit, facilities etc. others thought so too! Lympstone has been in the final of both the Devon Life and the Calor village of the year. We are thrilled to have won the Devon Life competition and it is well worth buying your copy of September’s issue to read the editorial and the article on page 98 about Lympstone. It certainly made me feel proud. Many thanks to every-one who came along and represented their society or group when the Calor judges came to visit. We only had four days notice of their arrival and the fact that they wanted to see as many groups as possible, so the turn out at the last minute was wonderful and very much appreciated. We have yet to hear if we have won the Calor competition at the time this goes to press, but we should know any day now: keep an eye on the Calor web-site where they will post the results. We'll put up a poster in the Post office when we know the results. Win or lose, two finals and at least one prize should remind us all how lucky we are to live here. Jane Moffatt MOTHERS` UNION

Tony Day 268653 (Anyone got a suitable picture of an avocet, please? Ed) SUMMER FUN Summer clubs at LYPS went ahead as usual with great success. The Junior Clubs met each Wednesday morning with organised activities including Lympstone Olympics, a BBQ, Water slides, T shirt designing and much more. Most sessions were full and we couldn't admit any more children. The seniors had a particularly good day out Paintballing: a new activity this year and very popular. Many thanks to the extra adult volunteers who accompanied the members and staff on the trips. It was so nice to hear reports of how well our members behaved and what a good advertisement they were to the village. Junior Youth Club will be held on Friday 7th September 5 - 7 pm. Senior Youth club will restart in the middle of September after the summer break, please look out for posters once we have finalised the date. If you would like more details about Lyps, please contact Jane Moffatt on 279952 for Junior LYPS or Shelley Munday on 273435 for senior LYPS. Jane Moffatt Lympstone gets a new youth area thanks to EDDC Lottery Grant Lympstone has been chosen as one of the five villages who will benefit from a Lottery Child's Play Grant of £200,000. This Lottery grant was open to all district councils and as part of their consultation both Lympstone Parish council and Lympstone@ Play took part and applied to be one of the chosen villages. The decision EDDC made after consultation was to use most of the money for creating a tennis court sized tarmac area which could be used for Youth Play. As Lympstone already had a proven track record of youth consultation, play ground management and partnership with the Parish Council and L@P, we were lucky enough to be chosen. Wheels should be put in motion in September but timescale is not known yet. The designated area will be the basketball area by the youth hut. The Plan at the moment is to apply for more funding once the tarmac is completed so that we can install two multi- unit games ends (MUGA) which will allow basketball and football to be played there.
