JUST FOR THE YOUNG (a book site?)
The Man Who Planted Trees I went to see The Puppet State Theatre Company in The Man Who Planted Trees on Saturday 15th March. It was about a man who, over many years, planted enough trees to make a forest. He started by selecting out good acorns and planting them one at a time and even when there were wars he just went on planting and in the end had a huge forest. He was a very selfless man who didn't want any glory and he was very patient because it took a long time for all the trees to grow. As a result of what he had done, people were able to come and live in the area which had once been bleak and dry, because there was water and animals and it was a good place to live. I really enjoyed the play, the dog was very funny and made me laugh and when the man died at the end I felt sad. The other funny bit was the French Mayor puppet who said he would protect the trees and then ordered them to be cut down for fuel. The actors sprayed us with water and wafted scents like lavender so that we felt like we were in a forest. There were only two actors but they used puppets so it felt like there were more characters. I think this was a good play for adults and children to see. George T. Age 9
