ITEMS OF NOTE from the Parish Council Meeting February

Council Tax Precept.

The Parish Council has agreed its budget for 2009/10.  The Precept, which is the money that EDDC is asked to provide will remain at £25,900. However, as there are now more houses in the Parish the actual amount that is paid by each property owner will show a slight fall.  Careful budgeting will allow some activities to improve and some new work to be carried out.  If the budget goes to plan, there will also be a small increase in the reserves that the Parish Council holds.  These are now earning interest but as you can guess, at the moment, this is not going to be very much.

Vacancy for a Parish Councillor.

The deadline for a formal request for an election is noon on 4th February 2009.  As the Herald goes to the printers before then it is not possible to give an up to date report.  All news will be posted on all of the Parish Council Notice Boards.  If there is no request, then the Parish Council will aim to co-opt a new Councillor at the meeting on 2nd March 2009.

Youth Facilities get better and better.

A Youth Shelter has now been erected next to the Youth Club Building on Candy's Field.  The Parish Council and the Lympstone Young Person's Society (LYPS) would like to give a big thank you to all of those who volunteered their help in skills and muscles to get this job done.  It will be a great asset to our young people.  This is a great example of how anyone in the village can lend a hand to make it a better place to live, work and play.

The tarmac area is complete and the Multi-use games facilities have been provided, paid for by grant and voluntary subscriptions.

A big thank you also to Rotary Club.  They have given £1,500 to put a floor under the shelter and lay a concrete path around the Youth Club.

Digital TV is coming your way

Are you ready to receive Digital TV.  Do you know what this will mean to you?  There is no need to panic and rush out to buy a new TV.  Everything will be explained at the next Councillor's Surgery on Saturday 14th February 2009 in the Village Hall.  Experts will be on hand to explain the options to you and the range of new TV channels that will be available.

FROM THE EDITOR

STOP PRESS

Tony, the Parish Council Clerk has just sent me an email –

“I have been informed that a petition for an election has been received by EDDC.

They will now call an election in the usual way”

FUND RAISING EFFORTS

LYMPSTONE@PLAY and the 1st LYMPSTONE SEA SCOUTS will both benefit from the many organisations which together have contributed many thousands to providing facilities to entertain the youth of our village. A vote of thanks must go from everyone to our own Furry Dance organisers to Devon County Council.

SEA SCOUTS HQ

Fifteen years after Cllr Pete Acca and his merry bunch of men put together a new Scout HQ on Cliff Field, the money has finally been found to connect mains power to the building.

Grants have been donated by Grassroots, Devon CC (courtesy of Cllr Bernard Hughes) and our own Parish Council (£200) to meet the £5000 it will cost to bring the power about 100 meters into the building. This will need rewiring to take advantage of mains power replacing the small generator which has been used up until now. Work to connect up this cable should take place this month.

Cllr Jane Moffatt describes the other new facilities in Candy’s Field later in this issue.

MODEL PUBLICATION SCHEME

It is hoped that the first part of this scheme can be published on www.lympstone.org this month.
