SOME Q AND AS FROM EAST DEVON DISTRICT COUNCIL RE WHEELIE BINS

Under the new service every household in the East Devon District will receive a wheeled bin for general household waste.  The only reason for not receiving one is if the household is unable to accommodate one due to access problems.

If you believe you fall into this category you can request an alternative gull sack collection service.

Under the new service, we will only collect non-recyclable waste contained in wheeled bins. Black sacks left out at kerbside will not be collected except for the period over Christmas when householders will be able to put out one additional bag of waste.

If you are elderly/disabled and can’t manage a wheeled bin?

The council recognises that, for some people, putting wheeled bins and recycling boxes out for collection is outside their capability.  Therefore, an enhanced service is provided for the infirm and disabled following an assessment being completed by a Council officer to confirm a genuine need.

Assistance will not be provided if there is an able bodied person living at a property or if neighbours are willing to assist.  Householders who currently receive assistance will continue to do so under the new service.

Smaller wheeled bins, roughly half the size of the standard bins, will also be available for households that request them.

What if I don’t have room or access for a wheeled bin? The council recognises that some residents will be unable to accommodate a wheeled bin.  These householders can request a gull sack collection service.  The Council will supply the sacks subject to an assessment by Council officers.  Smaller bins will also be available on request.

LYMPSTONE FILM SOCIETY

Although this is our ‘close season’ there is no shortage of  activity.  Exciting plans are being hatched for the new season starting in September and running through to April 2009.  The Programming Sub-Committee has been spending long hours in darkened rooms (where better in the recent miserable weather?) whittling down their lists of possible films. They have settled on the final eight, but as confirmation hasn't so far been received of availability I can't yet reveal what our first presentation will be on opening night, Friday 12th September (once again Film Nights will be on the second Friday of the month). However, I'm told that there's no truth in the rumour that, following up on our popular public transport theme, it will be On The Buses!  Whatever it turns out to be, each month members will be treated to a top title main feature, plus a short and, of course, those adverts that only Mather knows how to make; all on our newly-installed retractable screen and with our new high quality sound system (thanks to our successful lottery bid). Oh, and there’ll be a special spotlight on our glamorous ice-cream lady too!  The full programme will be circulated to members by the end of      July.

Our afternoon film shows will start again on Wednesday 24th September in a new venue: the refurbished Methodist Hall. Aimed at those of all ages who can’t or prefer not to attend our Friday Film Nights - and, indeed, members who do, but enjoy the relaxed and friendly atmosphere – the Midweek Matinées will this season also be under new management.  Martin Fisher is bringing his encyclopaedic knowledge of classic films, from British studios in particular, to the task and looks forward to welcoming old and new friends to the events. To open the season, he has chosen (Singin in the Rain starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor

LA   LA       LYMPSTONE

From Monday September 8th 2008 I will be holding two weekly choir sessions in the Methodist Hall, Chapel Road. The first session that starts at 5.30pm till 6.30pm, is for children aged 5 to 11and is free. The second session for adults and older children, will start at 7pm through to 8pm and is £2 per person per session.

The choirs are strictly mixed age and ability and the focus is on having fun. It doesn’t involve an audition we need numbers and enthusiasm. The musical content will be varied, from rousing gospel to Red Hot Chili Peppers with a hint of a Brazilian round. The children will get a chance to show you what they’ve been working on at the end of each term and any adults who are willing may even make a public display of themselves at some point, for their families amusement.

For more information or to register your interest, please contact me, Sam Abrahams on 01395 276708 evenings and weekends, or by email at lalalympstone@live.co.uk

Looking forward to seeing (and hearing) you in September

POLICE

Between the 31/05/08 and 02/06/08 six dozen tennis balls were stolen from the Lympstone Tennis club.  The balls are used for the children and are red and yellow in colour.  If anyone has seen these tennis balls or has any information, please contact us on the details below, quoting KE/08/1590

We have recently had a spate of car badges and alloys stolen from vehicles parked in the village, if anyone has any information or has seen anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, please get in contact.

I am sure many of you are aware that we have had anti social behaviour issues in and around the village lately.  I wish to reassure residents that we are aware of the problems and have been dealing with the issues accordingly.  Feedback has suggested that things have settled down but we will continue to monitor the situation.

The Neighbourhood Police Team work closely with other agencies to improve the quality of life and deal with problems if and when they arise.  We are gathering information about your concerns so we can work with you and our partner agencies to take action and tackle them.  I have placed a post box in the village post office where you can write down your concerns on our postcards and leave them for me.  All replies will be treated in the strictest of confidence.  Alternatively you can contact me on email listed below.
