Amenities Committee report

ANNUAL MEETING

We were pleased to report a successful year with the majority of objectives achieved, this included refurbishment of over 75% of the benches, replacement of broken rubbish bins and notice board. Completion of draft flood plan, sponsorship for flowerbeds, resolution of safety issues at The Rag and Candy’s Field. Land and boundary ownership issues were also clarified. I would like to thank the whole team for their active support over the last year with special thanks to Peter Acca for general repairs and managing the bench refurbishment, Brian Cotton for his meticulous work on Candy’s Field land and boundary status and the Flood Action Plan.

Plans for this year.

We will complete refurbishment of all benches (thanks Chris), and hope to reinstate the bench in Cliff Field. Additional rubbish bins are planned for various locations, and we are also liasing with DCC and EDDC regarding cycleway bins.

Our main focus this year will be on improving the appearance of the parish. We hope to put a lot of effort into improving the condition of our footpaths and flowers beds where we have been fortunate to received support from businesses within the community. We would like to The Lympstone Language School, Londis, The Swan Inn and The Globe Inn for their generous support. We would also like to thank the many villagers who have and continue to maintain our flowerbeds on an entirely voluntary effort. We hope to prepare the beds over the next couple of weeks subject to approval of DCC and we are talking to them regarding increasing the frequency of grass cutting.

Other work planned for this year includes contributing to the Parish Plan and implementing our Surface Water Flood Action Plan (there will be a public meeting to discuss the draft plan). We will continue to progress and develop our action list, which is published on our notice boards monthly. The next meeting of The Amenities Committee will be held this month and notices will be published before hand. Items on the draft agenda include our bin and bench purchases, footpaths, highways drainage, flood plan, Avenue and Cliff Field issues and lengthsman schedule of work. We would be delighted to see any members of the public at our meetings where you will get a chance to hear first hand what we are up to !

If you there are any issues you think we are not adequately addressing please let us know. Contact details are on all the notice boards.

POLICE MATTERS

On 5th April 08 two Canoes were stolen from outside a property in the Strand, The canoes, one yellow and one red, are quite unique as one has a motif of Jesus printed on it.  If anyone  has seen these canoes or has any information regarding the theft,  please contact the police on the details below, quoting KE/08/932.

I am amazed as I walk around Lympstone how many vehicles I see unlocked and with keys left in the ignition whilst unattended, often with bags and mobile phones left on display.  Lympstone is generally a low crime village but we do have travelling criminals who target rural areas, as they consider us to be more relaxed in our security!  We have recently had a vehicle stolen from Lympstone and I would urge residents to rethink their security and make sure they secure their vehicles when unattended – even if you are only away from the vehicle for a few minutes, that’s all it takes!!!

Once again I would ask residents to park considerately, especially around the Shop and Post Office.  As I am sure you are all aware, it is an offence to park on double yellow lines.

And finally, just a quick update with my progress on the concerns regarding the cycle track.  Despite leaving messages (more than a few!) for the Highways department, they have yet to respond, however I will continue with my efforts.
