ITEMS OF NOTE from the Parish Council Meeting

Local Government Reorganisation

The proposal is to abolish all 8 District Councils and the County Council and replace these with a Unitary Council for Devon.  A second option is to abolish these Councils but replace them with a Rural Unitary Authority and a Unitary Authority covering Exeter - Exmouth.  The existing Unitary Authorities in Plymouth and Torbay and Parish Councils would not be affected.

The Parish Council met on 4th August 2008 to consider its response to the proposals.  It was agreed to reject both options.  The Parish Council is clear that the present system does not serve the people well.  It is also clear that a reorganisation as proposed would be very expensive in terms of new letterheads, uniforms, signs etc but would not bring about any improvement in service to the people of the area.  The full response will be posted on the Parish Notice Boards.

 Refuse Collection

The scheme for providing more wheelie bins and recycling bins is still some time away for Lympstone Residents but the Parish Council would like to help pave the way.  There will be many properties where a wheelie bin would not be practical and where residents who are elderly or infirm could not cope with a wheelie bin.

The Parish Council intends to prepare a list of these properties  to pass to EDDC to help in their preparations.

If you would have difficulty or know someone who would, please go along to the next Parish Councillors Surgery on Saturday 20th September in the Methodist Hall to give details.

 Bus Shelters

The new bus shelter is in place outside the Saddlers Arms.  It has had to be erected away from the Bus Stop as there was no room for this type of shelter.  What is your reaction to this?  If you are a regular bus user, please pass on your comments to your local Parish Councillor.

FROM THE EDITOR

The word is that the Redwing will re-open before Easter next year.

Miles Freeman is leaving the Parish Council and Lympstone next month.

Cllr R Longhurst got very steamed up over EDDC ignoring our views -

“ It is not just the Redwing issue it is more that EDDC can sit on an application for 3 years then decide it on erroneous information + change of PC+ change of district councillors + change of at least 3 local residents - they do not give a damn for our views.”

(And many of us agree with him! - Ed)
