I’m delighted to say that we have been awarded the £23,000 grant we applied for from the Community Council of Devon and EDDC to part-fund this summer’s work at the hall. With £10,000 from our own reserves, a grant of £20,000 from the Parish Council and over £17,000 from our own fund- raising we have now almost reached the £75,000 we need for the works. We have made really good progress with fund- raising in the last few weeks, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the great response to Hazel Eaton Terry’s sponsored swim. She raised over £4000! Work will start at Easter to replace the Function Room floor, but most of this year’s work will be programmed for the summer when the hall is normally quieter. Our contractors will ensure that summer events like the Flower & Produce show will be able to take place normally. Funds we raise from now on will be used for the complete re-fit of the kitchen. We’re talking about the exact details of this work which will cost around a further £30,000 and will be done in the summer of 2011. We’re also planning to replace all of the stage lighting tracking and controls in the hall this summer, in collaboration with the Players, Lympstone Entertainments and the Film Society. Village organisations have been really positive about joining in the fund raising and we have over a dozen fund raising events lined up right through the year.Spring dates to note are: - Film Society screening of Mamma Mia 26th March - Grand Scrabble Tournament 28th April - Fashion Show organized by PTFA 12th May Don Mildenhall

VILLAGE HALL FUND RAISING LOTTERY
WRITER?I am going to start a Creative Writing and Story Group in the village. It will meet monthly on a regular evening either in peoples' houses or in a hall /public space somewhere - depending on numbers. I would like to combine creative writing and storytelling to start with, but am open to the possibility of two groups eventually. In the sessions, we would hear short stories told (not read) as well as reading own writing (prose and poetry) and we would be doing writing games and exercises to inspire or play with in the sessions. I have run creative writing sessions before and can lead the initial sessions and then others can take turns. This is an invitation to express interest and I will sort out the possible dates when I can gauge numbers. Jenny Moon - 01395-276569 FRIENDS OF LYMPSTONE PARISH CHURCH The winners of the February Church Lottery were Mr. and Mrs. McChance of Strawberry Hill with ticket No. 68. Harefield Estate Representative ST PETROCK’S A RESOURCE CENTRE FOR THE HOMELESS Over the years many people in Lympstone have donated both in kind and in money to help this small charity in Exeter to do a marathon job. We thought it was time to give you an update on how your generosity is put to good use. On Sunday 11th April at 10.45am in the Parish Church, Shirley Gill, an extremely experienced Project Worker at St Petrock’s, will give a talk about the work of St Petrock’s and answer your questions. Where Shirley is it is never all doom and gloom. Consequently, aided by the other like-minded staff, St Pet’s has become a homely sanctuary where every individual is given hope and help towards a happier life ahead. PLEASE do come to support Shirley. (She is quite an entertainer!). Everybody is most welcome.
