PARISH COUNCIL
HERALD NOTES

OUR CURRENT WAR
At our monthly Parish Council Meeting I was
asked to put a thank- you letter in the Herald to those with family fighting
on our behalf.
Living close to The Camp it is almost impossible not to know someone who is or
was in The Forces. At least four and possibly more local families from the
village plus many families from the Royal Marines Married Estates have family
fighting in Iraq right now. To them, and all the others with loved ones
involved in this war, all we can say is THANK YOU.
800 years ago we had people going to fight a
Holy War in the same area. Today our forces are fighting on "Humanitarian
Grounds". In both cases we, the common people, have little understanding of
the root causes of wars which take away our friends and relations. All we can
do is hope that the democratically elected Blairs and Bushes of this world
know what they are doing.
Whether sitting in a tank in Basra or Baghdad
or washing down a Green Goddess in a grimy inner city, our forces perform
duties that most of us would shrink from whilst just doing their jobs -
following orders. We can do little to reward them for being where they are.
But when they return we must never forget to say THANK YOU and
THANK YOU again.

WHY NOT BE A PARISH COUNCILLOR ?
Those with a keen eye who watch our notice
boards will have seen that not many of the 'old' members of our Parish
Council have stood for re-election.
To rectify this problem a number of Councillors will have to be 'co-opted'
on to the Council. This means that they will have to be brought in by
those who did put their name forward.
If you feel that you could contribute one
or two evenings of your time each month in this interesting work for the
village then all you have to do is give Sally Harradine a call –
Mrs Sally Harradine,
Clerk to the Council
Telephone (01395) 275130
Or, if you are on the internet, for more information look on the East
Devon District Council web site "On becoming a Councillor".
