LYMPSTONE PARISH COUNCIL HERALD NOTES

LYMPSTONE PARISH COUNCIL

HERALD NOTES – Feb 2003

NEW YEAR FLOODING

The Parish Council has been asked to inform East Devon District Council about any properties in the parish that were flooded within domestic quarters by the recent bad weather.  If possible we are asked to indicate whether the flood was from a watercourse, land run off, or blocked drains.  It would also be helpful if we could indicate whether the flooding has happened previously or if this is the first time.

If you have been flooded please let me know and I will compile a list for EDDC.

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act the Parish Council has produced a Publication Scheme for the Local Council which was adopted on 6 January.  As has been the case in the past, information will be available to members of the public by appointment with the Clerk.  A charge of £1 will be made for each page copied.

TRAFFIC WORKING PARTY

The Parish Council Traffic Working Party recently held a meeting with the Local Police Officer PC Jim Shanks, now to be called a Neighbourhood Ward Officer and an officer from Devon County Highway Department.

I was asked to include some items from the meeting in the Herald.

Cont

It seems we generally perceive danger where it does not exist, PC Shanks urges us to be tolerant.  Devon is safer than most other areas in the country.  Speeds may seem to be great but this is a false perception and PC Shanks assured the meeting that Devon drivers are better than we think.  Recently the speed gun was used in Lympstone, the maximum speed recorded was 22mph.

It became apparent during the meeting that members of the public are not reporting problems to the relevant authorities so that they can take appropriate action.

A VERY BIG THANK YOU

To the parents, staff and committee of the preschool for the generous gifts given to me on my recent retirement. My long association with the Pre-school has been very happy and one I will miss very much. May I wish them every success for the future.  Anne Challis
