LYMPSTONE PARISH COUNCIL HERALD NOTES – OCTOBER 2002

EXMOUTH COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Mr A K Alexander, the Principle of Exmouth Community College, gave a short talk and answer questions about the College.  He outlined his previous experiences and plans for the future of the College.  These included making the safety and welfare of the children a priority with a new footbridge from one site to the other; changing the school timetable; safety fencing around the perimeter of the grounds and electronic gates.  A new uniform had been introduced and an ambitious new building program was planned. Mr Alexander answered questions about raising the academic standards of the college and how it would cope with an expansion in pupil numbers.

 BONFIRES

During the recent fine weather there have been complaints about inconsiderate bonfires.  Such things do detract from the pleasure of sitting in gardens.

 FREE TREES

The Council will be taking part the in the East Devon Free Tree Scheme again this year.  EDDC is offering free trees for planting to residents in East Devon.  Numbers are limited so this will be a first come – first served basis.  Applicants will be responsible for caring for the trees until they are established.  The scheme operates via our Council and anyone interested in applying should contact Cllr Dave Tyrrell (272522), our village Tree Warden.

 FIREMAN’S STRIKE

Cllr Bernard Hughes, our Devon County Councillor, reported on the imminent Fireman’s strike.  He assured members that cover will be adequate in Lympstone but stated that only one Green Goddess will be stationed in Exmouth.  The Devon Fire Authority is urging everyone to be extra vigilant over the period of the strike.

 BEST KEPT VILLAGE COMPETITION

The Parish Council was asked to enter the village in the Best Kept Village Competition next year.  If anyone or group would be interested in pursuing this for the village please get in touch.
