Notes From The Editor

My first edition of The Herald went down well with most of you.  We did have some small problems with the layout due to the fact that the printers never received printed copy to check the copy they received electronically. Also, for those with poor eyesight, the fractionally smaller font/character size coupled with occasionally poor photocopies made some pages difficult to read.  Last month I had a lot to squeeze in but this month I have room to play with and have upped the size of the characters in each word.  I hope this makes for easier reading for everyone.

People have sent me a steady trickle of suggestions for future articles including things about sailing and a volunteer with cooking in mind – more of this next month.

You will notice that we have a fair amount of wasted space this month.  Partly because a contributor let me down at the last minute and I have not yet written those articles of general interest that I should have in reserve for just such occasions – I will try to ensure that this does not happen in future.

From a New Councillor

As you may have noticed in last months Herald, I have been co-opted by Lympstone Parish Council.  Last night was my first meeting and I was asked to spread the word on three items.

The first was a plea for people not to put out items for recycling on the day or even evening of the day before collection.  This is not only unsightly but can also be dangerous.  With nights drawing in there is far more chance that people, especially the old, will fall over bags etc.

The second was a request for people to be aware that during any fireman’s strike, Green Goddess cover will be very limited. PLEASE be especially careful during these periods when fire fighters will probably take much longer to appear.

The last was the subject of dogs fouling footpaths.  A letter on this subject is reproduced elsewhere.  Nobody likes it!

Thank you from Ray Challis

I wish to say thank you to all the people who enquired after me and sent get well wishes and cards during my short stay in the very excellent Willoughby Ward at Exmouth Hospital.  I am now feeling very much better.
