La La Lympstone

La La Lympstone

La La Lympstone was formed in September 2008 by Sam Abrahams who, previously being a semi pro jazz singer, missed singing when she moved to the village in 2007 from the south east. After searching for a choir to join to no avail, she decided to start one of her own.

The first sessions consisted of Sam and a few friends. There are now up to 70 people on the books, most of which meet every week. The music is mostly modern and rarely religious, some arranged by Sam, others are more ‘off the shelf’ but all of them have that great combination of fun and familiarity but with a challenge.

The choir ethos is simple. If you like singing and having a laugh then this choir is for you. Some members just drop in to get their ‘fix’ or to blow the cobwebs away. Whether its monthly or just when they can, they are always welcome.

For others who want to get a bit more involved then the performances they do are taken very seriously although you wouldn’t know it with the amount of fun they have preparing for it. Their complex harmonies appear effortless in their performance, its a pleasure to listen but also to watch as they are clearly enjoying themselves as much as their audience. A great evenings entertainment.

So if you are thinking about joining then ask yourself just two things. Do you love to sing and do you love to laugh? Whether you are second only to Barbara Streisand or keep your voice hidden behind the shower curtain you will fit right in at La La. There are no auditions the only requirement is a sense of humour.

If you are thinking of booking the choir then you can get in touch with Sam via the contacts page or why not pop along to a concert or one of their rehearsals.

They meet every Monday evening, 7pm at The Methodist Hall, Chapel Road, Lympstone. Whether its to sing or to listen they would love to see you!
