City of Light Theatre presents
OUT OF THE ASHES
Based on the book by Michael Morpurgo
Sunday 13th May at 4.00pm in the Village Hall
Young Becky Morley is growing up on a Devon farm. On New Year’s Day 2001 she begins to keep a diary. It turns out to be a year that will change her life…
The children’s author Michael Morpurgo also lives on a Devon farm, and his most famous novel, War Horse, became a hugely successful National Theatre play, and then a film by Stephen Spielberg. Now his story of the foot and mouth outbreak, Out of the Ashes, has also been dramatised, as Becky’s diary comes alive in a play by City of Light Theatre Company.
The story features the birth of her pet lamb, Little Josh, her glorious rides with Ruby the horse, and the effect of the spread of foot and mouth, the disease which caused the loss of so many animals on farms throughout Britain.
‘Charming and inventive, the piece uses simple staging and storytelling to shed light on a monumental crisis in recent history.’
