The Annual Cricket Match 2024

NEW TROPHY FOR EARLY CRICKET MATCH
Thursday, 16th May @ 6pm – St Peter’s Cricket Ground

A new trophy, to be presented to the winning team, has been hand-crafted by John Welton for the Annual Cricket Match between Lympstone and St Peter’s. Instead of being played in June as usual, the game has been brought forward, and is taking place on the evening of Thursday, 16th May, at St Peter’s glorious cricket ground at Harefield House, now St Peter’s School. Stumps will be pitched at 6pm.

Bring your chairs or rugs, your families and your sunshades, and enjoy the incomparable view and scenes of traditional village life. There will be a barbecue and a bar, ice cream will be served and prizes will be raffled.

The match is played to raise funds for the Friends of Lympstone Church, who help to pay for the repair and maintenance of our most ancient and beautiful building. First staged in 2001, it was the idea of Ian Moody and Sue Goddard, and the new trophy is named in their honour.

A notice in the Lympstone Herald of the day, 23 years ago, read: “Enjoy a relaxing glass of wine as you enjoy the cricket and watch the sun set over the Estuary. Refreshments, licensed bar, raffle, free parking.” Nothing has changed, except the trophy, which for that first game was a miniature cricket bat, long since lost.
