LYMPSTONE MUMMERS 23RD DECEMBER
Lympstone Mummers will tour the Village pubs with Lympstone’s Mummers Play two nights before Christmas (December 23rd). The ten minute play is probably about 200 years old and is thought to have been performed originally by fishermen, seeking contributions to their Christmas from the “big houses”.
All words in the script, handed down over generations, will be spoken but there might be the odd embellishment as England’s old foes are comically cut down and rudely revived by a dubious doctor.
The troupe of six players will burst into the Saddlers at around 8.15, fight their way through the Redwing at 9 and the Swan at 9.30 to arrive at the Globe by about 10pm. A collection will be taken for the Children’s Society.
