Village Concert

The Village Concert is quite unashamedly an old fashioned variety show. The most talented performers in Lympstone (and others!) stand on stage for 3 minutes each and entertain the audience packed into the village hall, in a variety of ways. This year, as well as the songs and sketches, jokes and stories, poems and music, we are promised something new – a performing dog. The time limit was imposed when the first concert – some 12 years ago – lasted until what seemed like the early hours of the morning. Even now it is hard to maintain. Some performers, if they discover that the audience likes them, are reluctant to leave the stage. But we have ways of making them walk…

You will be amazed, as everybody always says, just how much talent there is in this village (what a shame Penelope Keith didn’t get to see it!).

Paul Downes, is the supreme example; always a loyal supporter of the Village Concert, his superb musicianship never fails to entertain our audiences. We are lucky to have seen him twice already in the past 12 months, once as a duo with Mick Ryan, and then with the newly re-formed folk band Crows.

There will be performers who were on stage at the first concert all those years ago, and those making their first appearance. So this is Lympstone at its best and happiest, and it’s an experience you won’t forget. Don’t miss it. As the poster says, it’s unmissable.
