Fifty one brave souls ‘beat the bounds’.

Fifty one Lympstonians braved the elements to complete the traditional six mile ‘beating of the bounds’ hike around the village, touching or beating the several stones that mark the parish boundary. Undeterred by thick gorse, fields of towering maize plants, ravine-like descents, menacing looking long horned cattle, and heavy rain, the group was ably led by Robert Harrison, and after a six hour walk returned safely to the Swan. Here we reviewed previous records of  ‘beatings of the bounds’ stretching back to the 1880’s.
