Lympstone WI Report for March

Lympstone WI Report for March

The speaker for this month’s meeting was Laura Board, who came to tell us about the work of the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and its Talking Books Scheme. This provides a massive and free resource to blind or partially sighted people who, once they have downloaded the free app, can listen to audiobooks, magazines and podcasts on their own computer, smartphone or tablet. They are also available on CD or USB stick. It was inspiring to learn how the Institute are harnessing technology to ensure access to so many aspects of our modern world.

After the break, our President, Diana de la Rue, reminded us about the Italian-themed buffet lunch to be held at the Sailing Club on Wednesday the 15th March. April will be a busy month for meetings for local Women’s Institutes. Lympstone WI will hold its Annual Meeting on Wednesday the 5th April at the Methodist Hall, followed closely by the Spring Group Meeting, hosted by Lympstone WI, in Lympstone Village Hall on Friday the 7th April at 2.30 pm. This will include a speaker and entertainment, and Diana asked for volunteers to provide teas at the event. The Spring Council Meeting will be held the following Wednesday, the 12th April in Torquay when, depending on the number of members wishing to attend, a coach will be provided from the Saddlers.

Our next scheduled meeting is in the Methodist Hall at 2.30 pm on Wednesday the 5th April, when there will be no speaker, as we will be voting for a new President, Treasurer, and Secretary as well as for one or two new committee members.

We are very pleased to welcome anyone who thinks she might be interested in finding out about the Lympstone WI. For more information please find us on the village website or come along to one of our meetings.
