Friends of Underhill Surgery are proud to announce that our Transport Co-ordinator, Gillian Hipkins, received the award of Volunteer of the Year 2016 in this year’s Devon Community Transport Awards. At a civic ceremony (pictured) at County Hall, Thursday 26 May, Gillian was presented with the award by Councillor Andrew Moulding, Chairman for Devon County Council. Gillian also was one of three people who received the Volunteer Enabler award. She received a handsome engraved glass trophy, two certificates and a generous hamper. She was described as a “compassionate and dedicated administrator” who goes “above and beyond to provide excellent service”, often volunteering to drive patients when other volunteers are unavailable. Gillian said “I feel very honoured and privileged. I never expected it. I just love being active. It’s a scheme you need to be dedicated to, and I love it.” Congratulations Gillian!
