Mrs Kate Fincham-Powell was welcomed to the meeting by our President, Anne Frampton. “A celebration of Christmas” enthralled us for an hour with Kate’s presentation of traditional Christmas customs and festivities in folk music, anecdotes, poetry and prose. Her performance with a jig doll in the form of a Morris dancer was brilliant. She played on a Wheatstone English concertina (over 100 years old), a neat and interesting instrument. Amazing just how much the pig featured in some of the songs!

With food on our minds, it was decided to forego the business part of the meeting and concentrate on a lovely Christmas tea after which our new Secretary, Jo Cotton, gave out only essential notices. Members were reminded to bring the following items to the next meeting:

Their subs (£31.50) in an envelope with name clearly marked.

Completed voting slips on the six resolutions outlined on pages 26-31 of the November & December WI Life.

The money (£15) for the New Year meal at the Redwing on Tuesday,10th January (7 for 7.30)

The next meeting is on Weds. 4 January when Mrs M Scott will enlighten us on being a British Housewife in Sierra Leone. On past form she should prove to be a most entertaining speaker so do come and join us. New members welcome at 2.30 pm at the Village Hall.
