A plan for the Parish 2010-20
The concept of the parish plan has its origins in the Labour Government’s earlier Vital Villages programme. The programme was anxious to ensure that the very best of British village life was captured and sustained.
A Parish Plan has 3 important contributions to make to the running of the Parish.
- There is a recognized value in having a parish plan as a means by which the Parish’s voice would have a greater impact on deliberations in the East Devon District and in the Devon County administrations. This was seen as particularly important at a time when local government is in reorganisation and is purporting to wish to consult more with the local community.
- Since the Plan is a product of the community it is a basis for action by people in the Parish. It should document the aspirations of groups and act as a focal point for their desires. In production the Plan will uncover hidden opportunities and resources.
- The Plan should be the basis of any bid for funding for local initiatives. Since it is a product of the community it demonstrates to the providers of funding the commitment of the whole community to the project seeking funds.
The real power of a Parish Plan is that it must be a product of the community as a whole. This is our Plan – it describes nicely the hopes, aspirations, challenges and fears of our community.
Also below is a link to the Action Plan this summarises to Actions required by the Community to achieve The Plan. If significant numbers of these actions are followed through and achieved, real benefit to our community will follow and all the effort involved in creating the Parish Plan will have been worthwhile. Voluntary action groups will be needed but will not have to follow the nominated actions in numerical sequence. Some will be achieved more quickly and easily than others – others may prove impossible at this time – and others may never prove achievable, but we will never know until we try.
