BEATING THE BOUNDS 2024

On Saturday 7th September 2024, Lympstone will be beating its parish boundary.

This is an ancient and traditional ceremony to confirm the parish’s boundary and to pass that knowledge on down the generations. It’s also a lovely excuse to meet new people and see the full extent of our village. It is a lovely 6.5 mile community walk around the Lympstone Parish Boundary, which is marked by a series of granite parish boundary stones.

It is challenging in places; it crosses obstacles (fields, woods, streams, hedges, fences, walls, roads, etc), for which help will be on hand if needed. Stout footwear is advised and dress for the weather.

A fair level of fitness is advisable to complete the whole of the walk. Whilst it is a led walk, individuals are primarily responsible for their own safety. However, participants completing previous Beating the Bounds have ranged in age from 8 to 80! Dogs are also welcome but must be kept on leads at all times. We stop for a picnic half-way around (up on Lympstone Common) so do bring something to eat and drink.

The walk will leave from Parsonage Stile at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday 7th September.
We do need some volunteers marshalls to help with Beating the Bounds on the day, to help walkers cross roads safely, climb over fences and gates, bringing up the rear of the walk, etc.. If you would like to volunteer to help out on the day, please contact me: Andrew Minter 07850 412657 ajminterten@gmail.com Keep an eye out for lamp-post posters in the village and come along and be part of it!
