THE RETURN OF THE DANTE QUARTET

Two years after the premiere of Beethoven’s Quartet Journey in Lympstone, Krysia, Oscar, Yuko and Richard return to the wonderful acoustic of our parish church for a concert of string quartets by Haydn, Szymanowski and Debussy.

In the past year they have given several performances of the Beethoven, a marathon weekend of all 15 Shostakovich quartets, and undertaken a tour of Japan. They will stop off in Lympstone on their way down to Cornwall for their annual Dante Festival, before going to China for the first time.

Haydn is known as ‘the father of the String Quartet’, and wrote 68 in all. Debussy just wrote one, but it is one of the best-loved in the repertoire. Szymanowski’s 2nd Quartet is full of folk tunes from his native Poland. You will hear a delightful programme from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries.
