John Harrison, a carpenter from Yorkshire, spent over forty years perfecting clocks that could keep accurate time at sea. Towards the end of his life, he had devised a land-based pendulum clock which he said could be made to be accurate to one second in one hundred days which would run continuously for one hundred years without maintenance. What is the lost science of this remarkable man and was the clock ever made?
