Shakespeare in a Lympstone Garden

with The Merry Wives of Windsor
by William Shakespeare

Queen Elizabeth I enjoyed the character of Falstaff in the Henry IV plays so much that she asked Shakespeare for a comedy showing Falstaff in love. The fat knight chooses to seduce the wives of two wealthy gentlemen living at Windsor, because they have control of their husband’s purses. When the husbands are warned of the plot, Falstaff hides in a laundry basket…

Cygnet Theatre’s production of this rollicking tale of marriage, fidelity, trickery and love reaches Lympstone on Saturday 13th July, after a tour beginning at the Palace Theatre, Paignton and including some of the finest garden theatres in East Devon.

The performance will take place as usual in the Telfers’ wonderful woodland garden (entrance from Underhill, next to the car park), and members of the audience are again invited to bring their picnics, chairs or rugs from 5pm, and the play will begin at 6pm.

Tickets £10, family £30, U18s/NUS £5 from Demelza, 2 Brookfield Cottages, EX8 5ES on 272243 or boxoffice@lympstone-entertainments.net
