The Comedy of Errors

THE COMEDY OF ERRORS. Not the story of hapless government over the past 14 years, but Shakespeare’s most farcical comedy, a tale of muddle and confusion, of wild mishaps and wrongful accusations, near-seduction and mistaken identity, guaranteed to lift your spirits after 6 weeks of political wrangling.

This is Cygnet Theatre’s latest joyful performance in Judith and Robin Telfer’s romantic garden, once again directed by Amanda Knott. Bring your own picnics and Prosecco, your chairs and blankets, and settle on the grass from 5pm for a performance that begins at 6, on Sunday 7th July.

At the end of the same month, we welcome The Pantaloons for the first time to Lympstone, in the same woodland garden. This critically acclaimed open-air company, who have been touring Britain for the past 20 years, will be performing another classic comedy, Oscar Wilde’s THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, one of the best-loved plays ever written.

While Shakespeare is toying with identical twins, Wilde is playing with fictitious names. Everybody loves Ernest. In fact, Cecily and Gwendolen are both engaged to Ernest. The only trouble is, he doesn’t exist
Don’t forget your handbag. Or your cucumber sandwiches.
