May WI meeting

May WI meeting

The May meeting was the first for our new President, Heather Stratford who welcomed new members.  We wish Heather a successful and productive presidency.

Mollie Bond gave a detailed well researched account of the life of Wallis Simpson leading up to and over the abdication of Edward Vlll, covering Wallis’s upbringing, marriage, divorce and the courtship with Edward (David), not forgetting the power of the press, public opinion and Nazism.

Reports from April activities included the Devon Federation Spring Council Meeting, Devon Federation Gardening Event, and the Estuary Group Meeting. Looking forward, there will be a visit to Burrow Farm Garden in May, Summer Supper in July and we will again be catering for the Furry Dance on 5th August; our next meeting will be Wednesday 7th June in the Methodist Hall at 2.30pm when the talk will be on evacuation in WW2 to USA.

Anyone who may be interested in Lympstone WI will always be welcomed. For more information find us on the village website or come along to one of our meetings on the first Wednesday of the month.
