The Little Sweep

The Little Sweep

A FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE IN LYMPSTONE!

For the first time, Lympstone Entertainments is able to bring a major event from Budleigh Music Festival to the village. Benjamin Britten’s short comic opera for children and adults, The Little Sweep, is being produced under the musical direction of Nicky Marshall, conductor of the Devon Bach Choir, who last year presented his own opera for children at the Festival. The production will be directed by Harland Walshaw, and will have its opening night in Lympstone Village Hall on Thursday, 12th July, before moving to Budleigh for two further performances.

This is among Benjamin Britten’s most popular and delightful works, appealing to young and not-so young alike! Full of songs and action-packed, it tells the story of a boy chimney sweep visiting a country house in Regency times, and being rescued from his cruel masters by the children of the house.

It will be performed by professional musicians and singers from the area, and by children from Exeter, Budleigh, Lympstone and Topsham. The audience is invited to sing the choruses, after appropriate rehearsal!

The Lympstone performance will take place in The Village Hall on Thursday, 12th July at 7.30 pm.

The Little Sweep is great fun, with tuneful, exciting music, and a brilliant cast of both adults and children. There is sure to be a rush on the tickets, which are now available from Lympstone Post Office, or by phoning 274 356. Don’t miss out!
